This Side of Paradise is the debut novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Published in 1920, the book examines the lives and morality of post-World War I youth. Its protagonist, Amory Blaine, is an attractive Princeton University student who dabbles in literature.

The novel explores the theme of love warped by greed and status-seeking. It blends different styles of writing: at times a fictional narrative, at times free verse, sometimes narrative drama, interspersed with letters and poems from Amory. The occasional switch from third person to second person gives the hint that the story is semi-autobiographic.

Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald (September 24, 1896-December 21, 1940) was an American author of novels and short stories, whose works are the paradigmatic writings of the Jazz Age. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century. Fitzgerald is considered a member of the “Lost Generation” of the 1920s. Fitzgerald’s work has been adapted into films many times, such as The Great Gatsby (his most famous), Tender Is the Night, etc.
