Great Expectations 读后感

I think this novel is an interesting initiation novel. And it shows the process of Pip’s changes. This novel adopts a first-person perspective，so we can know and understand the feelings of Pip better. At the beginning, Pip is an honest boy and he wants to be a person like Joe. He wants to work hard and earn money by his own. Suddenly, the chances come. He can be a gentleman and can have enough money without effort. So in this period, he changes a lot. When Joe comes to visit him, he feels ashamed. In the end, he cannot rely on others. He finds a job and becomes down-to-earth, during which he changes a little. But I think he is still a kind and honest person. When Magwitchs is old and ill, Pip is glad to accompany him. What’s more, he is loyal to his friends. He helps his friend Herbert find a job and supports him secretly.

Other characters in this novel are also very impressive. The figure of uncle Wopsle is very ironic. His attitudes towards Pip change a lot. Before Pip gets the chance, he always scolds Pip and does not treat him so well. After that, his attitude changes and he even apple-polishes Pip. In contrast to the uncle, Joe is an honest and hard-working man. He treats Pip like his friend. When the chances come, he blesses Pip and hopes him can have a better life instead of asking for money.

 This novel also tells me a truth that we should never dream to have luck and what we should do is to be down-to-earth and work hard. And we should never hurt others. In this novel, people who have done wrong are punished.
