  "The Old Man and the Sea" is one of the classics of the series of English majors designated by the Ministry of Education in the "Teaching Guide for Undergraduate Foreign Language Exchange Majors in Colleges and Universities (English)". It is a novella written by American novelist Ernest Hemingway in Cuba in 1951 and published in 1952. The story revolves around an elderly Cuban fisherman who fights with a huge horse and a forest fish in the Gulf Stream far offshore, which embodies Hemingway's philosophy of life and moral ideal. That is, human beings do not bow to fate, never give up the spirit of fighters and positive optimistic attitude towards life. The work won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953, 1954. Nobel Jiao Xue Award; the reason for winning the Nobel Jiao Xue Prize is: "Because of his mastery of narrative art, which is prominently displayed in his recent book The Old Man and the Sea, and also because of his influence on contemporary interactive style."
