The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway is a simple but inspiring story about perseverance and courage. The old fisherman Santiago suffers long-term bad luck and fails to catch fish for eighty-four days. Although everyone doubts him, he never gives up his hope and self-respect. When he finally catches a giant marlin, he struggles with it for three painful days. Later, sharks destroy his hard-won fish, leaving only a skeleton. Even so, Santiago does not feel defeated. He proves that true failure is not losing the fish, but losing the will to fight. This book teaches me that perseverance matters more than results.
