  At that time Gatsby's heart has already flew away and he was very nervous and too impatient to wait for the girl he loved. Maybe she had become something that Gatsby could not forget forever though I think he should have forget her. As the old saying goes, what people can't possess would become something that leads to their obsession. It doesn't matter what they used to be and what they look like now, all they want is what they didn't have at that very early beginning.
