Sister Carrie enters our vision as a poor rural girl who yearns for wealth. However, driven by various forces and desires in reality, Sister Carrie eventually becomes fashionable and bright. However, she will find herself impoverished in the end. That is the simplest summary of Sister Carrie's life. Drouet, the drummer whom Sister Carrie had met on the train to the great city of Chicago, got a taste of the respectable life of a salesman. Therefore, when her life became more and more difficult as a coach-girl under the pressure of her brother-in-law, she did not hesitate to abandon her sister and seek a better life by becoming Drouet's mistress. However, human desires are infinite, and when we take a step forward, we cannot help but long for higher status; I don't think there is anything wrong with this idea in itself. It can be read in a positive way, striving for a better life, but in Sister Carrie it is ironic.
