When I wake up in the morning from a nice slumber, instead of hearing
the birds chirping I hear sounds of spitting. Many times I've had to
dodge globs of spit or close my eyes as someone shoots his or her spit
towards my feet. Although I was expecting this practice, I never
suspected it to be so ubiquitous. In America if someone spits on the
sidewalk in the city, surrounding people express their disapproval via
staring at the man or calling him out. In fact, one of the most
provocative insults is to spit near someone's feet.
