The ending of "Herland" is thought-provoking. Terry's obstinacy in trying to force his way into Ma-land shows the clash between his mindset and the values of Herland. The suggestion of keeping him a prisoner or even using anesthesia reflects the seriousness of the situation and the determination of the women to protect their land. It makes one consider the consequences of such insistence on imposing one's will on others. It also highlights the complexity of human nature and the challenges faced when different worldviews collide. Ellador's belief that he might promise shows a glimmer of hope for a more peaceful resolution, but it also leaves us wondering if Terry will truly change or if the conflict will persist. This ending leaves us with much to ponder on the nature of power, control, and understanding.
