a review of review

The anonymous author of this review of Django Unchained,apparently, had done quite good homework before he wrote this review; otherwise, he is a well-educated middle class, conversant with music, literature, and history, perhaps reading a book with a cup of coffee leisurely when dismissed from his office. Of course, writing a film review would be a superb way for him to vent his brain-brimming ideas and insights,perhaps imparting some knowledge, as a windfall, to those less educated laymen, like me.

I do have learned something reading this review. First of all is the director per se. I did not know this director before reading this article, and the director turns out to be a great one. OK, another source for my movie list. Then is the historic and literature inspiration for the plot and the characters. Although I learned some ABC in the American history and literature classes, it is actually like knowing there are nine planets in our solar system as compared with the accumulated information about the entire cosmos. Leaning history and literature in this vicarious way is more mnemonic and entertaining.

As a rookie film fans, I have gained quite a bit of knowledge about how to appreciate and assess a movie through reading reviews like this one. This review is quite good, written by someone that does not appear to talk to us in condescension (some reviewers do) but indeed has more accesses to something behind the scene, something we mediocre person do not know.  To pick bones from an egg, the title of the review should be prefaced with "spoiler alert" since not all readers can tolerate the feeling of being exploited of the "first time" experience.
