Jane Eyre was written by Charlotte Bronte,a famous writer whose sisters are Emily Bronte and Anne Bronte.Charlotte Bronte's first published novel, and her most noted work, is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story. Jane is plain, poor, alone and unprotected, but due to her fierce independence and strong will she grows and is able to defy society's expectations of her. This is definitely feminist literature, published in 1847, way before the beginning of any feminist movement. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why the novel has had such a wide following since it first came on the market. It is also one of the first gothic romances published and defines the genre.

The story of Jane Eyre takes place in northern England in the early to mid-19th century.

Jane Eyre is a poor girl,she is an orphan who was adopted by her aunt in her very young age,but her aunt doesn’t treat her like her own child,or even a part of the family,she abuse her,let her own kids bullet her,as long as Jane fight against anything,she would ask the servants to lock her into the “red room”--which is haunted in little Jane’s mind.The reason she hates Jane so much is her husband-- Jane’s uncle,pay too much attention on Jane’s mother,although she is his biological sister(That’s his sister!Why the wife shows that much jealous to her own niece?).

She sent her to a school named Lowood,but that school doesn’t treat like a real person,they let her stand on the desk for a whole day with neither water nor food,to learn how barren is the life of a sinner(she is only a little girl,she is not a wild animal,why all of them treat her like that,does she do anything wrong?Shouldn’t she be born in this world?She cannot act like a spoiled child even if the family adopted her is her uncle’s family.),only a little girl gives her a piece of bread secretly,her name is Helen,she becomes the best friend of Jane. But a few time later,a fever broke up,a lot of kids died from that,including Helen,but Jane is still alive.

Jane has a talent in drawing,she become a painting teacher,she spends a lot of time teaching kids drawing in front of Helen’s grave,in order to memorize her.

Then she goes to Thornfield--a place makes her feel a full life,she has not only not be trampled on,but also be treated as an equal,she falls in love with the the owner of that castle--Mr.Rochester,he says:I offer you my hand my heart and all my possessions,to pass through life as my second self,best earthly companion.(When i saw that i cried directly,Mr.Rochester is a successor of his family,his father and his brothers,they all died.He must feel such lonely to face a situation that he has to make a promise to get married with the daughter of a rich person,with a bunch of dowry,but finally he follows his heart) they decided to get married.

All the people regard Jane Eyre as poor,plain obscure and little,too monstrous to love.But they love each other,in their mind nothing can stop them being together with each other.(In my mind,though a person’s beauty on the face can make others once feel that one is attractive and charming,if his or her mind isn’t the same beautiful as the appearance,such as beauty cannot last for,when others find that the beauty which had charmed them was only a falsity,it’s not true,they will like the person no more.For a long time,only a person’s great virtue,a noble soul,a beautiful heart can be called an everlasting beauty,just as Kahill Gibran has said,that “Beauty is a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted.”I can feel that how beauty really is,as we are all fleshly men,so we can’t distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness,but as there are great differences in our souls,and from that,we can know that whether a man is noble or ordinary,and even obscure,that is,whether he is beautiful or not.)

There is a secret that nobody knows,Mr.Rochester has got married in Caribbean before he met Jane Eyre--with a woman has some inheritable psychological problems,she didn’t tell him before they got married,and after the wedding,her invisible gene shows up,she become an insane.After Jane knows of that,she leave him,to a cliff,she wants to end up her life.

A man named St.John saved her.He took her to his house,and took good care of her.He told her that he created a school for boys,and now he wanted to open another school for girls,he asked whether Jane Eyre would like to be the only teacher in that school to in charge of a lot of girls who are hardly being educated.But she took that almost immediately,with happiness.

One year later,everything is getting better and better,and one day,Mr.St John tells Jane two extraordinary things--one is that Jane’s uncle leave her 20,000 ponds,and points her for the only successor,the other one is,Jane’s uncle is also Mr.St John’s uncle,that means they are cousins.(That’s a super great thing to Jane,she finally gets what she desire after suffering so many years.)But at that time Jane’s new cousin asks her to marry him,although he doesn’t like her a bit,he just wants a wife to take good care of his life as a missionary.Jane goes back to the castle in Thornfield,she sees Mr.Rochester,and she finds soon that his eyes are broken,he is blind now.

But she comes back to him,after several years,she is still in his heart,and take all the places of Mr.Rochester’s heart.Jane finally be together with her Mr.Right,her true love.

After reading Jane Eyre, I think Jane Eyre is a great woman. Through a serious of troublesome situations between Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester, the author set up a great female image before readers: insisting on maintaining an independent personality, pursuing individual freedom, advocating equality of life and being confident before hard conditions.
