THE OLD MAN AND THE

The Old Man and the Sea is one of the classic works in the world written by Hemingway. This book successfully created a tough man called Santiago who makes a living by fishing. In this novel, Santiago is made out as a person of old and unlucky. Some people respected him but didn’t believe him that he can turn his bad luck over as he didn’t catch any fish in the past 84 days. Although failures beat him down over and over again, Santiago never gave up trying. Finally he found an extremely large marlin. Although Santiago knew perfectly well that it is difficult to catch it, he still made his every effort to kill the marlin and bring it back.  However the dead fish’s smell attracted lots of sharks and Santiago had no more strength to driver them away, so sharks ate all meat of the marlin. Even that Santiago was still unwilling to give up, he brought the bones of the marlin back to the fishing port. He proved himself at last.

The sentence in this book which impresses me most is that "But a man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated”. In nowadays, many of us always worry about whether they can success or not. Some of them are so caring about it that they can’t accept the fact which they are failed. Once they failed, they doubt themselves and lost the courage to fight. Comparing with those people, I really respect Santiago for his brave and quality of never giving up. Only by keep trying and never give up, can we finally reach our goals.
