The Book Review
黄凯波
Actually, reading Around The World in 80 Days arouse my initial memory in primary school. At that time, I held the opinion that it’s just a story about travelling. However, as time went by, reviewing the book again provided me with another comprehension.
It’s a story of Mr. Phileas Fogg, who was a member of the Reform Club. He made a bet with others that he would travel around the world within 80 days, which seemed to be impossible in that era. Although like a enormous difficulty, he was stick to setting off. Finally, after experiencing a great amount of setbacks, he made it in time.
While such simple story is it, it still hit my spiritual world. What impresses me the most is Mr. Fogg’s perseverance. No matter how odd others thought about him, Mr. Fogg didn’t give up his determination and just moved on. Reflection to current time, perseverance is dribbling away in the society. More and more teenagers reject to beat the difficulties, preferring to stay in peaceful. How ridiculous it is! What’s more, through Mr. Fogg’s story, I find it of great importance to stay clam when facing straitened circumstances. The only way to solve problem is not worrying about it but calm down to get access to the solutions.
From my perspective, perseverance as well as calmness are 2 main factors contributing to success. For most of us undergraduate students, the two personalities are really treasures of life which will undoubtedly do much good to our future development.
