It is written by gu hongming before one hundred years，and he was a chinese man received thirteen doctorate during his lifetime. He is a langeage expert who is good at English, French, German and so on.In this book, he repeated the above argument through various analyses，I think there are not elements of pedantries but reasonable components. it's obvious that he is pride of his nation in his writing. this is where we should learn from him. As for his expositionon of filial piety,i think it's enlightening. True filial piety doesn't consist in the mere outward performancece of these services to our patents. True filial piety consists in how,in what manner, with what spirit we perform these services. That merely when there is work to be done, the young people should take the trouble of doing it, and when there is wine and food , the old folk are allowed to take part of it–doyou really think that is filial piety?NO, i answered in the affirmative. We are families, we hope to work out together, and parents wish us rely on them and connect with them spiritually. However, it is undeniable that mr.gu had some backward ideas, such as some words about women. The auther defined the ancient Chinese women who did housework as the highest ideal of Chinese women, but lack of demeaning the women who made a living in the society. There is implicit discriminatetion against women from it. Nowadays, times are changing! We should respect housewives as well as appreciate women who shine in their fields, the three conforts and four virtues are not the rules that bind women. And i think Chinese women want to grow old together with their husbands, but not with concubines. At the beginning of the article, there are two questions, what is the true Chinese men and what is the true Chinese spirit? After reading this book,i knew. The true Chinese men is a mature and sensible person with a childlike spirit. In short, true chinese men has a childlike spirit and a mature brain. So, true Chinese spirit is a spirit of eternal youth is an immortal national spirit. Then, where does our national spirit come from? it may be Chinese " gentle".this isn't means weaking and obe ding, but unharried，calm and mastership. This is because humans have compassions–true human intelligence! In a word, it's the perfect combination of soul and wisdom. If the Chinese spirit is a spirit of eternal yourth, an immortal national spirit, the secret of it's immortality is the perfect combination of soul and wisdom. To be honest, it is difficult for me to read this English book, but eternal pressure and internal drive push me to read it continually. Although it had backward ideas, it is worthwhile to read and learn mr.gu's bravery and intelligence. And it is necessary for us to arouse the spirit of Chinese people!
