Different love
唐爱玲
The author's mother was a city girl, but his father was a collier. His mother was so bitter of poor and humiliated her situations. Beside, his mother admired " successful" people.Successful men succeeded in making money and passing beyond her terrible conditions.Although the author had no instinctive respect for Henry Saxton, since the author was foreordained to accept all his mother's values, he had to look up to him too.
The author though that his mother stood for all that was lofty and noble and delicate and sensitive and pure in his life. The author enjoyed writing. However, his mother didn't like him writing and want him on the way to "get on",so he obeyed his mother and he became a teacher finally. Nevertheless,he insisted on writing. His mother saw his published work before she died. Though the author's mother passed away,he still wondered what his mother would think of him.
Through the whole prose,I feel the author's deep yearning for his mother. Beyond that, the author didn't really sure whether his mother's views were right or not. It's understandable for parents to wish their children get on,but we can take our own ideas of our future into consideration, too.
