You stand in my back

D.H. Lawrence (1885-1930), English novelist, storywriter, critic, poet and painter, one of the greatest figures in 20th-century English literature. "Snake" and "How Beastly the Bourgeoisie is" are probably his most anthologized poems. Getting ahead is one of his short novels.

D. h. Lawrence's short essay, getting ahead, recalls his time with his mother. The mother represented all the noble things in Lawrence's life, but she had been poor all her life, so she longed for her children to excel and despised his passion for writing. He kept on writing and finally let his mother see his published works. Although his mother was dead, he was still wondering what she would think of him. The delicate writing expresses the author's deep nostalgia for his mother and reflects Lawrence's complex feelings towards her.

After reading it, I can experience the deep love the author to his mother. Though his mother has a little bit disdain to his work—writing, she still stand behind him. What a melting story it is!
