Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Love, sex, gender, and philosophy
Plato not only accepts homosexuality as part of his social life, but also holds a romantic perspective and goes further in two ways.
He emphasizes the factors of education in homosexual relationships and sublimates this relationship into an ideal teacher-student relationship, thus completely exceeding the physical attraction, making it a teacher's concern for the student's soul. This is what people often call "Platonic love", which refers to a romantic love, but because of the concern of the soul rather than the flesh, the essence of this love has been completely changed.
Regarding Plato's discussion of modern feminism, he believes that women should enjoy the same social status as men, and that women can do all the work of men. This is a very avant-garde view, which is affirmation.
