Return to Naivete:The Book Review of  The Little Prince. Anthony de Saint Expery.Beijing:Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press,2017,144pp. ​

  The Little Prince, written by France writer Anthony de Saint Exupery,is a famous short story in Children ’ s Literature.Narrated by a pilot who fell into the Sahara desert,the book follows the adventures of the little prince from his planet on his way to earth.

  Failing in getting along with his rose,the little prince decided to leave the planet to travel.During the journey,the little prince visited seven planets and come across a king,a conceited man,a tippler,a businessman who is always counting stars,a lamplighter,a geography,a snake,a rose garden,a fox,the pilot himself and so on.All kinds of people have their own unique,even absurd characteristic.On earth,the fox taught the little prince to understand “ tame ” ,actually let him build up the concept and ability of love.The pilot established a precious friendship with the little prince.After the little prince left the earth,the pilot miss him deeply,so he wrote this article.

  Through the eyes of the little prince,the author reveals the inanity of the adult world,together with the conceit,dogma and greed.Since the book was written during the Second World War,the author also satirizes the tyrannical Nazi regime and expresses the yearning for beauty and goodness.

  In my opinion,a series of ridiculous adult images are a reflection of the human spiritual crisis,Because of the excessive attention to the interests of reality,a great number of people lose their inner goodness,sincerity and ability to find beauty. Businessman who counted the stars and the merchant who “ sold pills that had been invented to quench thirst ” ,for example,are so caught up in efficiency and profit that they forgot what life actually is.Turkish astronomers had shown the same outcome twice,but with very different results depending on the costume.The king who likes to give orders to others can ’ t really control them.The conceit man will only listen to praise.These funny people,in fact,reflect the narrow nationalism and dictatorship in real life,especially the Nazi regime that control France at that time.

Children are naivete,while adult seem to be vacuous and bored,lost in the money relationship.The author hopes that adults return to the state of naivete like children,become sincere and enjoy the life.In some way,it is similar to theory of “ finding conscience ” of Chinese Mr.Wang Yangming.

As a young adult,I regard the little prince as a mirror to reflect on myself.I would like to keep the most authentic heart in mind,like the little prince,and maintain a true life passion.I hope that when the painting is presented to me,I can see the snake that swallowed the elephant,not just a hat!
