A Bright Jewel in Female Literary

A Room of One’s Own, which is Virginia Woolf’s early feminist masterpiece, sounds the clarion call of women’s liberation ideology. The author tends to explore the theory and practice of female literary creation in a woman’s vision and mind. She puts an emphasis on clear and full portraying the phenomenon that women suffer great gender discrimination in the patriarchal society and strongly calls for women’s awakening. The author is engaged in literary creation only belongs to women through the unique language and expression of women with the use of her pen as well as encourages women to speak out what they are thinking. A Room of One’s Own explains the issue of women’s living conditions and creatively puts forward the dual nature of the body theory, not only opens up a precedent for women but also lays the foundation of the rise of various feminist schools.

When it comes a poor child in England has little more hope than had the son of an Athenian slave to be emancipated into that intellectual freedom of which great wrings are born. , Virginia Woolf explained Women, then, have not had a dog’s chance of wring poetry. successfully with the truth that women have had less intellectual freedom than the sons of Athenian slaves. Besides, what drew my admiration best is Virginia Woolf’s point about writing. In her opinion, it is fatal for anyone who writes to think of their sex; one must be woman-manly or man-womanly. She argues that work should have its own characteristics, must be both male and female, and the two sexes must be integrated, which is Woolf’s unique wisdom. To prove this point, she took Mr. Galsworthy and Mr. Kipling as examples, saying that when a book lacks suggestive power, however hard it hits the surface of the mind it cannot penetrate within.

There is no doubt that Virginia Woolf is praiseworthy for calling for women’s awakening. However, in my opinion, there is still room to improve in the way of proving the point she wants to express. She tried to explain discrimination women suffered or even the constraints of women literary creation a small way -- she was driven out of the grass and was not allowed to enter the library. These experiences do react that. But Virginia Woolf cannot avoid being thought that she subsumed her subjective consciousness in writing the book.

On the whole, though A Room of One’s Own has not done well in all respects, it still can say that A Room of One’s Own written by Virginia Woolf is a bright jewel in female literary. A Room of One’s Own not only unfolds the difficulty of women in novel creation, but also explores the independent personality of women at a deep level. It is Virginia Woolf who encouraged women go for a roaring life and their dreams bravely as a separate individual. It is her who gives every woman a chance to write anything in their hearts freely in a room of their own.
