This book clearly shows people’s pursuit of kindness and justice and their resistance to evil forces. Aladdin who is justice and brave defeats the evil magician, good Ali Baba defeats the robbers who represent wickedness with wisdom. Also, the book mainly uses comparison and rich imagination to help express theme. The writer uses the contrast method to highlight the nature of the characters. For instance, good Aladdin and evil magician, witty Morgiana and stupid robbers. Rich imagination endows the works with romanticism and rich oriental mystery.The omnipotent magic lamp and magic ring, the palace built in the night, hot oil can burn people to death. It expresses the enterprising spirit of people conquering nature and defeating evil forces.This book depicts many different characters, and I learn much good quality from them. Firstly, I learn selfless and not greedy from Ali Baba. Although Ali Baba easily obtained a large amount of wealth, he did not fully take it as his own and he shared the location of the treasure with others. A common saying goes “gentlemen love money, take it in a proper way, use it in a proper way”, we should be masters of money and control wealth rationally. In addition, I learn to be brave from the Morgiana who dared to fight against the robbers alone. Last but not least, what impresses me most about this book is its distinctive national and religious characteristics. This book tells us a lot of Arabic folktales which reflect Arab life, customs and religious beliefs. For example, I can learn marriage customs, hospitality customs, business customs in the stories.
