The Pupil

The pupil is a story by Henry James who is an American novelist,
literary critic, playwright and essayist. And the essence of the novel
identified by James is the choice and reproduction of the representative
life impression. Life is the source of novel creation, experience
constitutes the material of the novel, which is James' realism. This
story centers around a young man, Pemberton, who is a penniless Oxford
graduate takes on a job tutoring Morgan Moreen who has a heart attack
and is out of character with the rest of the family. As he spends more
time with the brilliant eleven-year-old, he becomes very fond of him.
Morgan wants to live with his tutor forever, but it backfires. Morgan's
family doesn't pay Pemberton for his tutoring, and what's worse, they
don't pay their hotel bills either. Pemberton has to take another
tutoring job to pay his bills. He must decide whether to save Morgan
from his ill-fated family or leave Morgan in order to have a stable and
easy life.
