Nightingale and Rose
Jesson
The Nightingale and the Rose tells a beautiful and sad story: a young
man wanted very much to dance with his sweetheart, but she once promised
that if he gave her a red rose, she would dance with him. So the young
man looked around. But he could not find one in all the garden, and his
heart was broken. The nightingale knew the student's trouble and decided
to help him. She held her breast against the rose and sang in the
moonlight. The rose pierced her heart, and her song rose higher and
higher, till at last she was red with her blood, and the nightingale
died high in the grass. When the young man found the rose reddened by
the nightingale's blood, he gave it to his sweetheart. But she no longer
appreciated it. She'd rather be with the colonel who gave her the
jewels. From disappointment and pain to anger, the young man threw the
rose into the ditch, and a wheel ran over the beautiful flower...
Students no longer believe in love. A cruel fairy tale, expressed by
clean and fresh language, makes people feel the light sadness brought by
thinking about life and the world.
