Independence , Self-improvement and the warmth of family
--a book review of <Little women>
<Little women> is a book that reveal the value and will of the middle bourgeoisie during the American Civil War, from which we are able to learn a great amount of educational opinions. Especially, this book showed the warmth of family and the character of the four sisters , which are the independence and the self-improvement and so on.
<Little Women>, written by the American writer Louise May Alcott, was published in 1868. This book was based on the writer ’ s own experience, telling the reality of the family the writer lived. With the influence of the father and his friends who were writers as well as teachers, the American writer Louisa May Alcott born in 1832, got interested in writing and had written a great number of outstanding works. Before being a professional writer, the writer had confronted with the poverty, for this reason, she had done a lot of different work, from which she understand the reality of the America society more.
The book is mainly talking about the March family ’ s daily life, especially talking about the four sisters ’ growth as well as the relationship between the Laurie and the four sisters , emphasizing the view that each individual should be independent and always improve themselves especially the women. During the American Civil War, the Mr. March running for the war to try his best to help, the Ms. March and the four sisters lived a needy but happy life. They would help the Hummel ’ s family with their effort, even though they were facing with poverty, either. In this book, there was a distinct difference among the four sisters in terms of the character, but they all chased their dreams in their own ways, and they all tried their best to become the person they want.
What impressed me most in this book is the Ms. March, she truly taught us the excellent quality we should have. It is easy to find that she was elegant, independent and wise, and she always comported herself with great dignity. Even though the family was declining, she still had the quality of the elegant nobility, and she never complained about the poverty she now facing. When the Mr. March was out, she assumed the responsibility of raising the family. With a lot of things to care about, she never lost her temper, and she will dealt with the things steadily and wisely.
What ’ s more, I am struck by the warmth of the March ’ s family greatly, which was simple but pure and movable. In this family, they could speak what they wanted, and they had the most sincere listener to understand them. They overcame the terrible things happened in the life together, they helped each other to improve themselves and they witnessed the growth of each other, which were valuable. They also quarreled with each other but came to peace soon after. They became more and more independent and they never forgot to improve themselves to achieve what they wanted. All of them were truly lovely, they did peacockish just the same as many women, but they still made their efforts to live a happy life.
We all individuals are expected to be independent and never forget to improve ourselves, as well as cherishing the warmth of our family. There will be many difficulties in our life, and we hope all of us could just as the same as the March ’ s family, overcoming them with great confidence and elegance.
