Herry James

The deep meaning of James's novel is thought-provoking and
alarming. What makes a person's life so full of meaning? William James
once said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and those of us who
are apathetic to her beauty, whose opinion is the absolute truth? James
said "there is no pure objective truth". Truth lies in the
experiential process of activity. Truth is relative, conditional,
artificial, but not to be kneaded. Where would we be if no one
were willing to truly know us, and no one could see us in return? One
should never be content with a life of hardship, poverty and despair. It
is true that man can live and work like a bad labourer, and at the same
time be the noblest creature of heaven. If there really is a person of
extraordinary morality. So what makes him otherworldly? It can
only be so -- that their souls toil and endure meekly for the ideals of
their souls, and their companions are never so inspired. The ideals of
other people's lives lurk in mysteries that we can never fully
understand, but some of his manifestations often tell us when those
ideals emerge. So what is ideal? Does the pursuit of ideals mean that
life has meaning? I think James seems ideal is not a real thing,
it's more like a process, a participation in the process of itself, as
to achieve what may not be important, but at the same time, James is
representative of pragmatism, he said "a man can not completely
accept pragmatism, but he is still a pragmatist". It is true that
the meaning of life cannot be separated from practicality, so I believe
that the meaning of one's life depends to a great extent on whether one
is striving towards a direction with practical results.
