Never Forget

Story happened in an ordinary town called Oran. Oran in April, as usual, had it not been for the dead mouse that Dr. Rieux met downstairs. It was like a signal that piles of rats in Oran's streets began to run out of their shelters and die coughing blood. This anomaly has not caught people's attention, and no one will realize that this is the beginning of a disaster. As the number of dead mice became less and less, the people in Oran seemed to have returned to their former peaceful lives. However, the sudden death of Porter Michelle, more and more people began to die, terror began to spread in the town, an unprecedented plague in Oran town. "During the rat infestation, the newspapers were full of reports, but now they don't say a word. It's because mice die on the street and people die at home. The number of patients with strange diseases treated by each doctor was scattered. The media did not play their keen investigative ability to report the emergence of this strange disease to people. Fortunately, with the continuous efforts of people concerned about this strange disease, the provincial government and the municipal government began to reflect and pay attention to it, and finally issued a major order - the closure of the city. No one can enter or leave. At this time, Oran becomes an independent world. People in Oran are on the verge of death. With the awakening of people's awareness of epidemic prevention and tireless efforts in curing patients, at last, at a daybreak on a fine February morning, the ceremonial opening of the gates took place, acclaimed by the populace.

Mainstream perceived Albert Camus’s work an absurdism, but I think it present a real look of humanity and make a great prediction, which did happen in Wuhan, China. Everything looks alike: a whistle blower, doctors, volunteers, government workers, and people who just trapped in epidemic city and couldn't return home. Even ignorance, separation, panic, deprivation and so on, are performed on stage, without alteration. What strikes me most is the last episode, that is Dr. Rieux observed people who were celebrating and cheering aloofly, in memory of his dead companion in the fight. Perhaps Rieux is the last person who remembers this disaster, instead of being flooded and hit by pleasure. What we really need is minds that keeps sober in the face of thrill, alarming the upcoming and recurrent catastrophe that we should never forget.
