LOVE

What does love mean？What is true love？Does pure love really exist？These are my inner doubts after reading Wuthering Heights. I believe this is also the confusion in most of our lives． The story of Wuthering Heights is unfolded because of the so-called "true love". The three main characters are the explorers of love. They have different personalities, but they are also confused losers in love. Heathcliff is kind of a devil. The whole story happened because of his sincere love for Catherine. However, they were forced to break up. It is a kind of revenge. Since Catherine passed away because there were not people taking care of her when she was badly ill. The Wuthering Heights represents his deep but short love with Catherine. It’s the only place that he once had true love. I quite like Catherine at first because she is different. She was lively , brave and has a will for true freedom deep down inside. However, because of the family’s pampering, she is also very self-willed. Although she loves Heathcliff deeply and she also tried to fight against Hindly. She still waved after meeting Edgar Linton. Facing the choice between the rich and the poor, she chose the former one. While Edgar Linton’s firm and gentle character makes him a typical heroic figure. But he has a deadly drawback that is his weakness. When his self-esteem was hurt by Catherine and Heathcliff, he became very indifferent. Each character has its own strength and weakness, They all yearn for love, and they are the victims of love. Why did it lead to such a tragedy? I think there are many factors. The first is the social background, in which rights and status determine everything. Everyone yearns for money and wealth. When love is linked with interests, pure feelings become fragile and insignificant. The second reason is the concept of love. At that time, the big families all stressed on a "suitable family". It was very difficult to get real happiness by marriage under the influence of family. The last important reason, I think, is that the characters in the book don't know how to love. Love is not only to take, but also to know how to give and even sacrifice. In the end, each of them thought about themselves more than love, so they didn't get happiness in the end. Love is just so complicated. We can only explore it with enough patience.
