Bule Straggles
This interesting book written by Arnold Bennett tells us how to manage
our time and improve the quality of lives. I love Arnold Bennett’s
writing style, he states the “time management” topic in pellucid and
humorous way. In short, it points out some facts we ignore in life,
illustrates the importance of time management and gives people some
practical solutions of time management in a beautiful and slightly
lengthy tone. Its purpose is clearly different from the book that tells
people how to earn more money and become more successful, but to teach
people to envisage their own wish and to live a more fulfilling life.
The author insist that time is the most precious of possessions. No one
can take it from you, and no one can receive either more or less than
you receive. The chief beauty about the supply of time is that you
cannot waste it in advance. Therefore, the next year, next day , next
hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoilt. You can turn over
a new leaf every hour if you choose. That is saying it would never be
too late to choose to start a new kind of life. He thinks the affair is
a miracle. I truly believe this saying. The target readers of this
book is people who are constantly haunted by a suppressed
dissatisfaction with their daily life and feeling that they are leaving
something they would like to do undone. They are hard-working but not
satisfied with their situations. Arnold firstly suggest that don’t
persist in looking the working hours as the day and considering the
hours preceding them and following them nothing but a prologue and
epilogue. If people attach more importance to the time after work and
arrange their evening time more punctilious, they will feel as if their
daily time extended. The author advice people to cultivate some good
habits during the spare time. Besides, Arnold urges that people should
make the daily routine executable. Because of undertaking too much at
the start and being content with quite a little allow for accidents,
people often cannot achieve their goal and feel depressed. In his point
of view, the occasional deliberate breaking of one’s programme will not
help to mend matters. The evil springs not from persisting without
elasticity in what one has attempt, but from originally attempting too
much, from filling one’s programme till it runs over. Therefore, it is
necessary to slowing down one’s paces and not having excessive
expectations. Having a positive attitude also helps people live a
better life. Nothing is humdrum. And even the time waiting on bus could
be colorful and meaningful, too. What’s more than anything else lacking
in the life of average well-intentioned man of today is the reflective
hood. Arnold thinks that most people do not reflect upon genuinely
important things, upon the problems of their happiness, upon the main
direction in which they are going. He supposes that people always work
hard in action while be too lazy in think. He suggest that people should
reflect his conducts fairly well accord with principles or not. I’m
truly happy to come across this book, and I ‘m beginning to consider how
to put the author’s words into action.
