Moon and dream
Chinglishman
Reading this book has some twists and turns. The story of the talented
painter Van Gogh and Gauguin has always been legendary. Knowing that the
original form of the protagonist in the moon and sixpence is Gauguin,
and that the moon and sixpence is very famous, I want to find out what
stories are written in the book. First, I borrowed it from the library,
but I didn't get it. I only borrowed a book written by Maugham to
comment on other works. It should be good to think about the same
author. As a result, the stories involved in the book were not well
understood. I couldn't read it. I was disappointed. Later, I was lucky
enough to borrow a book from Mr. Zhu. When I got the book, I immediately
read it. Maybe it was because I had too much expectation. The author
only foreshadowed some things in the first few chapters, which was very
boring and a little disappointed in my heart, so the book was shelved.
Suddenly one day, Mr. Zhu made some comments on this book, which was
very interesting and interested in finishing the book as soon as
possible. In this book, the author uses the first person narrative
technique to tell the story of Strickland's abandoning his happy family,
stabilizing his social status and pursuing his ideal of painting. In
order to pursue his dream, he does not fear the poverty of life and
ignores the suffering of his illness. For decades, he never regrets.
This practice may only be achieved by genius. After the death of the
Aboriginal people, the more wonderful his painting is, the more blind he
will be He is painting with his life. Although the story of the novel is
somewhat exaggerated, I think the author wants to express the gap
between ideal and reality through this contrast. The moon was high and
ethereal, and the sixpence was very humble, but very real. There was a
big gap between them, but both were indispensable. In life, while we are
busy, we still need to look up at the moon and not forget to pursue our
dreams. Only in this way can life be more meaningful.
