Enjoy the tranquility

His words are like magic with the power to give back the inner peace that I sometime lost. Beautiful sceneries emerge in my mind when I read Walden written by Henry David Thoreau. I can see the silvery sheen from the scales of a leuciscus. I can hear the rustling sounds of leaves. I can feel the breeze from the glittering lake. My mind flows naturally along with the author. Gradually, tranquility fills my world, and then I find myself. Different from some common book reviews, this book review contains a lot of my feelings towards the book and towards the life, for the book deeply resonates with me.

First published in 1854, Walden details Thoreau's experiences in a cabin he built near Walden Pond. Viewed as a model of the harmonious coexistence between human and nature under the globalization background, Walden becomes as the symbol of the persistence in pursuing dreams and the protection of nature.

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived”, the author said. The sincerity between the lines reflects the author’s attitude towards life. Leaving the hustle and bustle of cities, he followed his heart like a pilgrim to chase for the life he valued. He said “Living is so dear”. I love that saying very much because the optimism and the passion for life give me the power to enjoy every moments of my life and do my best to make my days worthy.

“Every morning was a cheerful invitation to make my life of equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with nature herself.” Thoreau loves nature so much that he wrote many beautiful sentences to praise the beauty of nature. For me, staying in nature is the best way to drag me out of the unhappy memories. The calmness of sea will smooth the waves in my heart, and the blue sky will take me away from the reality. “The scenery of Walden is on a humble scale, though very beautiful, does not approach to grandeur……yet this pond is so remarkable for its depth and purity as to merit”. Maybe the real beauty of nature cannot be judged only by the appearance. It is the spirit that counts.

Just like Thoreau went to Walden pond alone, loneliness is a friend of mine too. I play the piano when I want to express myself. The gentle music with subtle changes in the melody are like the voice from my heart. Walking alone also gives me time to make my plan and relax myself fully. Doing things alone gives me a chance to reflect on myself and makes me understand that life is simple with the sense of satisfaction. Facing myself honestly is the way to live sincerely.

Walden pond is in everyone’s hearts. Some people choose to stay there all day and all night in order to listen to their hearts and keep real. Some people choose to chase their dreams in the outside world, then go back to gain power and courage. Some people leave the lake without returning, then they gradually forget who they are and lose their uniqueness in the crowd. The power of inner peace will lead us to find the true meanings of life. From my point of view, Walden is like a philosophy of life. So, please enjoy the tranquility that Walden brings to you, and you will find your inner peace.
