Book Review—How to Live on Twenty-Four Hours A Day
莫柝
Initially, the weird book name attracts me a lot. For every single
individual, how can we live on more or less than twenty-four hours a
day? Here comes my new interpreting. God is perfectly fair. A miracle
has been created that the absolute time every day for everyone is
identical. The reason why we call it impartial is that time doesn’t
favor those who are more diligent or distinctive or hate those who idle
their days away. Nobody is able to change the fact that time never be
decentered. Next comes how to arrange time properly. Before this, you
may as well acknowledge some undeniable points. Properly arrangements
require a lot, needing both scarification and persistence. Sometimes a
detailed plan doesn’t equal to further success. You have to make full
preparations that return might be less than your cost. This implies that
being too enthusiastic to start your plan might not be a suitable
choice, and please remember that there is nothing to worry as long as
the failure has no impact on your confidence and self-esteem. As for
why some people make it, others fail. The attitude towards time counts a
lot. In the book, there is a chapter talking about that provided that
you work for eight hours every day from 10:00 to 18:00. And beginning
ten hours and last six hours are regarded as overture and end chapter.
In the meantime, during that seemingly efficient eight hours’ working,
your mind is dragged out of the office. Thus, your all day is wasted.
All I want to say is that make the best of those 16 hours to strengthen
body and make friends, etc. It will, frankly to say, help you feel an
extra “income”. Apart from surface “use ratio” of time, more we should
consider is that which is the most worthwhile step that we should take.
From the book’s perspective, the answer is concentration and
self-reflection. Still, we pay attention to that 16 hours, give up that
meaningless 45 minutes used to stare into space in the station, why not
read newspaper or design the rest of your day. After 18:00, please
guarantee that you are not tired at all, which is totally an excuse for
avoiding any further thinking. There are all kinds of temptation on the
way to concentration. All I could tell you is trying to look into it as
different ways accelerating your “death”. And when it comes to
self-reflection, it contains two parts that are controlling your mind
and reflect your behaviors, respectively. There are boundless things for
us to ceaselessly deliberate including happiness, main road of your
life, past failure and so on. Only if we get the hang of reflecting
ourselves could we broaden the border and improve the horizons. By the
way, choose a timeframe that you are alone, such as going back home
after work. At last, I hope to share some highlights that I find in
this book. First, you can’t afford to waste tomorrow and can start a
brand-new page anytime you want. Second, Control of the mind and the
ability to concentrate are the hardest parts of the organism to drive.
Third, Happiness consists in enriching your own rational thinking and
acting in a manner consistent with your principles.
