fallen of two souls

To two fallen free souls -- Jo and Laurie The ending of Jo and Laurie in
Little Women has always been the reader’s resentment. After reading
some comments, I find many opinions argueing whether Jo should marry the
German professor. The two sides of the argument always seem to be focus
on choice between the best and the most sutiable, but I cannot simply
agree with this view. The reason why the story of Jo and Laurie is a
tragedy in my heart is not simply because they didn’t come together as I
expected, but because I only see two fallen souls in the so-called happy
ending . The two I loved were gone. I think there is something rather
masterful about them in the book. That is, Jo rejected Laurie’s
confession.I think at that stage,in Jo’s mind,Laurie was still her boy
,her Teddy rather than a man she can rely on and love.
Undoubtedly,Laurie’s love is passionate.I love the free and brave boy
who spoke of his love. But in my opinion Jo’s rejection is also a
defence to their pure love.Jo would never hastily treat her love. She
love Laurie, as her boy instead of her man, which is actually the most
loyal and cruel defence to her love. Whether it is Laurie’s proposal or
Jo’s rejection ,it is the collision of two free souls, who stay
uncompromising and persistent in their pursuit. Their choices have
nothing to do with the best or the most suitable but only their
understanding and belief in love. In my mind, the best ending for the
two is to get together in the end, but is was never the time Laurie
proposed. My expectation is Laurie still go abroad, but his love for Jo
never fade because of the leave. But with time passing by , his love
become more mature, reserved and everlasting. He saw many beatifully
dressed gilrs of different kind, but appreciate Jo’s frank and sincere
more. He saw the boundless world, and thus realize that he was too naive
beforetime. He began to understand the reason why Jo rejected him and
began to grow into a man that Jo can rely on.And for Jo, she sincerely
trust that Laurie will come back as her man. Finally, their love, brewing
from Jo rescued Laurie from his imprisoned home, after several years of
tacit understanding, become more mature and breed a happy ending. They
fit well because they both change for better because of their love. The
princess rescued the prince from the castle and they live happily
forever. But, in the given ending, two free souls were snuffed out, our
beloved Jo and Laurie. In this wordly happy ending, our ‘Jo’and her Teddy
‘Laurie’has died. For Jo,she once said,’she would rather be an old maid
,will never imprisoned her nobel free soul’.She chose old professor
Barr.I don’t think there is love, it is only a choice.Barr just appeared
as a life-saving straw in Jo’s most lonely time. But Jo is not the person
who will give up freedom and independent soul because of loneliness.Jo
will never need this straw. She will keep writing to fight againt pain
and relieve loneliness, instead of marring a man she doesn’t love. When
she became Mrs.Barr,I thought,Jo was dead, and what was left was
Josephine whom she had resisted for in the first half of her life .For
Laurie, he used to be such a naught and passionate boy.Impulsive
vindicating and frustrated going away all mirror his inner world full of
freedom and passion. How could he,who is full of vitality, fall in love
with Amy,who is so meek?Who is the dogmatic and rigorous man after
falling love with Amy?Is he still the ‘Laurie’we love? The boy Teddy was
dead. From the ending, I think I saw the fallen of two free and nobel
souls,which is the deepest tragedy.
