Antonio Antonio was generous and kind, and indifferent to money. He
often lends money free of charge; He relinquished his windfall to
Shylock's daughter and son-in-law, Lorenzo. He treasures the loyalty of
his friends very much. Antonio would go through fire and water for his
friends. To borrow money at the risk of his own life is to show his
loyalty to his friends, respect for friendship, at the cost of his life.
But he was in some ways thoughtless, and more rash and impulsive, and a
little foolish. When Shylock, who had a grudge against him, offered to
cut half of the meat, Antonio actually agreed. Shylock Shylock was
greedy, petty and cruel. He engaged in the usury industry, lending money
at high interest, to make huge profits, in pursuit of money; Lack of
sympathy for the poor; Antony, who lent money to others without
interest, blocked his way of making money. Bearing a grudge against
Antonio, he took the opportunity of signing a loan contract to set up a
trap for revenge. He was ruthless, greedy, crazy and extremely
vindictive. But he has his pities. His extreme revenge character has an
inseparable relation with his social background and experience. He was a
Jew who was discriminated and bullied in the Christian society, and he
was criticized by christians who stood on the moral high ground because
of racial discrimination and religious discrimination. His daughter
betrayed him, took away his money, and ran to the camp of her enemies;
Business is under pressure everywhere. This kind of unfair treatment and
misfortune make Shylock abnormal, selfish, cold, greedy and
narrow-minded personality. Portia The heroine, Portia, is brave,
resourceful, courageous and witty. Portia disguised herself as a man and
appeared as doctor of Law. When other men could do nothing, she used her
wisdom to skillfully defeat Shylock and save Antonio. For love, she
chose to control their own destiny, the pursuit of sincere and true
love, willing to sacrifice everything for the people they love. Be
faithful in love, and be brave in choosing whom you love, unshaken by
money or power. She did not consider whether he was rich, important or
aristocratic. She did not despise the poor Bassanio. Portia is also a
lively and lovely, cheerful generous, mischievous humor of the woman.
Portia teased Bassanio to get back the wedding ring as the price for
Antonio's defense; She made fun of her dear husband, accused him of
neglecting the meaning of the wedding ring, and insisted that Bassanio
must have given it to another woman. It shows that she is very
interesting and romantic.
