The book tells of the tragic fate of a rural girl who is called
"Tess ". Her fate seemed to have a fatalistic color, as if it
belonged to the will of the hidden god, but I could read that her
tragedy belonged to the times. She has many good qualities, such as
simplicity, such as kindness, such as tolerance, but living in that era,
she can not escape the power of that era and be swallowed up by it. As
Tess said ," The world we live in is scarred, and where birds sing
sweetly, poisonous snakes hiss ." Tess had honest beauty and
artless innocence, like the rose with snow. "The male worker in the
field is just a working man in the field, and the woman in the field is
part of the field ," it says. Men need to accumulate and grow to
become thick and broad, women are often born ." Tess is such a
person, people can not help but moved and love. When she fell in love
with Clay, she was so warm and firm, like a pilgrim falling before the
statue, and I remembered Yeats's verse :" how many people have
loved your beauty / loved your happy and charming youth / false or true
feelings / only one person loves your pilgrim soul /" From then on,
in her heart, Clay's soul is the soul of the saints, Clay's wisdom is
the wisdom of the prophets, she encircles herself with the glory of
love, forgets all the troubles of the past, and rejects all the doubts,
fears, shame that haunt her day and night. I think, at such a time, a
woman's soul is the real soul, more sound and fragrance, more boundless
beauty. However, the misfortunes which she could not escape came one
after another: the shameless Arrey, who seized her happiness, and the
weak Clay, who so failed Tess's love... Now, frivolous dandy is still
everywhere, secular prejudice is always stubborn and strong. A woman's
grieving history can be a heavy cross for herself, and a joke for
others. A society's lack of sympathy and love seems to be a more painful
`unfortunate thing than Tess' s story.
