Pride and Prejudice, the masterpiece by the English writer Jane Austen, is a full-length novel about material, love and marriage. The story that happened in the late 18th and early 19th centuries told the love story of Elizabeth and Darcy. Born in a country family, Elizabeth met master Darcy at a public dance because of her rich new neighbor. At their first meeting, Darcy left a bad impression on her—proud and disagreeable, and considered himself superior to country people. This bad impression gradually evolved into prejudice with the passage of time. On the other hand, although Darcy had a good impression on this intelligent and independent girl, the disparity of status kept him from showing his love for her, until one day he couldn't conquer his feeling. When he got up the courage to propose to Elizabeth, he was refused and he realized that she had a great misunderstanding about him. Annoyed but single-minded, he still made some changes to let her see his true self. At the same time, Elizabeth also began to pay attention to the man actually she did not know very well. Finally, Elizabeth changed her prejudice against Darcy and fell in love with him. Their change for love made them together.

I love the character of Elizabeth. She was thoughtful, affectionate, and had a high self-esteem. In her day, the only way for a woman of middle class origin to earn a decent life and status was to marry a good man, but she insisted on her pursuit of an ideal marriage instead of compromising with the secular world. She firmly believed that marriage should be based on love rather than material things. She advocated independent marriage, which made her finally achieve happiness. Through the shaping of this image, the author showed the independent spirit of women, put women on an equal position with men, and emphasized the importance of reason and wisdom to women. In addition, the character of Darcy also touched me. Although his family wealth and noble status made him feel superior, his love for Elizabeth improved that he paid more attention to the inner beauty of a person. Besides, he was a man who learned from his mistakes. When Elizabeth expressed her dissatisfaction with his arrogance, he changed himself and moved her with sincerity. From my point of view, what really brought two hearts together was their equally kind nature. A relationship based on common ground can be valuable and long lasting.
