Summary of Pride and prejudicePride and prejudice is a novel created by
the English female novelist Jane Austen in 1797. The heroine is
Elizabeth, one of the five daughters of the Squire Bennet. Elizabeth
first encountered Darcy at a ball, who was handsome and very rich, but
arrogant. He did not think Elizabeth fit to be his dancing partner.
Therefore, Elizabeth decided to ignore the haughty fellow out of a
strong sense of pride. But before long, Darcy had a good impression on
her lively and lovely manners, and asked her to dance with him at
another ball. Elizabeth agreed to dance with Darcy, and Darcy changed
his opinion of Elizabeth. He could not restrain his love for Elizabeth
and proposed to her, but his attitude was still so arrogant. Moreover,
Elizabeth had serious prejudice against him before, so she firmly
refused his proposal. He left her painfully, leaving only a letter.
Elizabeth read the letter, which explained why Bingley left without
saying anything and what Wickham said was a lie, with great regret, and
felt guilty of having wrongly blamed on Darcy. The next summer,
Elizabeth went to Darcy’ s farm and met him at a forest, finding that
his arrogance changed a lot. Gradually her prejudice against him was
dissolving. Since then , Elizabeth had turn the prejudice against Darcy
into truly love. In the end, the lovers got married.Review of Pride and
Prejudice“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in
possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” Unique opening
line, classic name, it comes from Pride and Prejudice, a love story
about hierarchy. The works vividly reflect the life and social
conditions of the British villages in the late 18th century and the
early 19th century, which were in a conservative and isolated state.
Austen’s socially amorous novels not only attracted a large number of
readers at that time, but still give readers a unique artistic enjoyment
until today. Among the many characters, I like Elizabeth best. With her
intelligence and teeth, she made me understand that women are not vases,
but perfect works of art that have meaning and thoughts. Unlike her
ignorant mother, Elizabeth pursued not wealth, but true love. After
dissolving the prejudice against Darcy, she began loving him honestly.
From this we can see, Elizabeth has a strong sense of pride, which is
needed for us all women even today. Mrs. Bennett’s pursuit of money and
the idea of getting something for nothing has become the mainstream in
today’s society, some girls dream of being stars or marrying into a
wealthy family. But I will say we women must first achieve self-respect
and self-love in order to be loved by others. That’s what the book has
taught me.
