Sense and Sensibility, originally known as Elinor and Marianne, was the
first of Jane Austen's six major novels to be published. The novel
revolves around the two protagonists' courtship activities, and as the
title suggests, the story focuses on the conflict between
"reason" and "emotion." Sister Elinor's behavior
everywhere embodies the intellectual personality, wisdom, and sister
Marianne's more true feelings, in addition to the two main characters,
like wood bushes, Willoughby, Colonel Brandon, Fanny and other minor
characters and personalities, so the success of "sense and
sensibility" largely attributed to the shaping of characters. One
of my favorite moments in the book is when Elinor laughingly approves as
she listens to the vulgar, boorish, self-righteous Robert spout his
nauseating values and moral code. She said to herself, "There is no
point in arguing, for he does not deserve such attention." It's a
social skill, but I love it. There are so many vulgar people in society,
it is a waste of their talents to correct them one by one. The best way
is to let them vulgar to the end, so there is no need to waste the
precious time of life on them. So not to explain, not to judge, and even
to flatter when necessary, is to respect yourself. In this novel, the
author writes about the relationship between property and marriage. For
property and abandon love no matter how to also not recommend it, unless
you want to do Willoughby, of course, I believe, in real life, many
people did Willoughby, but also have a lot of people. Love is just a
person, not his (her) money, who doesn't want to use their marriage in
exchange, so this kind of person is undoubtedly worthy of admiration.
The novel tells the story of two sisters whose love views are completely
different, sensible sister and emotional sister. Her sister Elinor was
very sensible, very calm, and of a very good heart and feeling. She knew
how to control her emotions. There was no moderation in her sister's
sorrow or pleasure, and everything was well but imprudence. Marianne
allowed her feelings to dictate her actions. Elinor, however, would not
give way to this impulse. Although the two sisters' love is very bumpy,
in the end, they both found love and love. Have a good life. This is a
happy ending, when the head triumphs over the heart, and everyone gets
the happiness they deserve.
