THE REVIEW OF TESS
Reflective
In my opinion,Tess is really a tragic but a strong figure. There was no
denying that she was a dutiful girl. And the order that her parents that
told was never violated. After her father can not work and die,as the
oldest daughter, she took the obligations of their families to take care
of his mother and severval younger brothers and sisters. She refused to
be drivern by the concept of secularism. But in the fatriarchal era,she
could not escape the shackles of fate.Under all kinds of pressure like
great poverty her families was suffering,Tess had to violate her
principles to marry the rich and began a life what she hate. From then
on,her life was slowly destoryed, not by her enemies, but by the people
who loves her.It can be said that the notion of Tess is not acceptable
to the community at that time and she was bound to become a victim of
society.I am very disgusted with Alec d'Urberville, who seduced Tess whe
she is no more than seventeen years old,and later pursues her
relentlessly until she agrees to become his mistress again. However,Tess
killed Alec. After several day's escape,Tess was arrested and sectenced
to hanging. This tragic ending make me think more about the social
situation where Tess lived in.
