Book Review

After reading Gorky's "my childhood", I thought of what Adler said: "lucky people are cured by childhood all their life, and unfortunate people are cured by childhood all their life." Everyone wants to be lucky, singing nursery rhymes, enjoying the love of their parents and growing up happily. But life cannot be so perfect. Some people have a happy and sweet childhood, while others are full of tears. We cannot choose our childhood, but we can choose how to face our childhood.

    Life cannot be so bad that it is good for nothing. You can always find some sweetness from suffering and some hope from despair. Aleosha, the protagonist in childhood, is the epitome of Gorky's childhood.

    Young aleosha, his father died and lived with his mother in the public house. The two uncles often quarrel and even fight over the separation of family production. Grandpa also fights with his two villains every day, and the chickens and dogs at home are restless. After her mother came back, they were afraid that she would get her dowry back, and the family conflict became more intense.

    My grumpy grandfather often beats and scolds his family. Once, due to curiosity, aliosha threw the white tablecloth into the dye vat and dyed it blue. He was severely beaten by his grandfather and became seriously ill. Mother was afraid of Grandpa and was unable to resist. She couldn't stand the hell like life and ran away from home, leaving poor aliosha.

   Aleosha lives alone in a home full of hatred and struggle. He witnessed his grandfather beating his grandmother, his uncle killing his aunt and killing the long-term worker, Xiao cigang. He was afraid and lonely in his heart.

    Fortunately, her mother came back, but she married a man ten years younger in order to escape the suffocating family. This is just the beginning of another nightmare. My stepfather gambles and often beats and scolds his mother. Mother became numb and indifferent and didn't take care of him.    Aleosha had to return to his grandfather's house.

    At this time, Grandpa's business went bankrupt and life became very difficult. Grandpa and grandma also began to live alone. Aliosha and her grandmother depend on each other. At a young age, aliosha can only make a living by picking up rags and stealing wood.

    More unfortunately, the mother died under the torture of poverty and disease. Grandpa didn't want to take him in anymore and asked him to make a living alone.

Aliosha didn't cry and complained about life. Tagore said, "when you shed tears when you miss the sun, you will miss the stars." If you always linger through the hardships of childhood, you will miss the whole life.

   Aleosha has eyes that discover beauty. Through the suffering of his childhood, he saw another bright world. There is a kind and optimistic grandmother, a simple and friendly little cigang who works for a long time, and a famous tenant who praises things and is determined to devote himself to science, which gives him hope and warmth in the world.

   A loving grandmother is a beam of light in the dark

   My grandmother was also an orphan since childhood. She was kind and tolerant. She understood the suffering of the world. She believed in a amiable, respectable and kind God. Grandma's love melted the suffering of aleosha's childhood. Her tolerance and optimistic attitude towards life infected him and gave him hope and courage in life.

   Grandma was like a lamp in the night, illuminating his way forward. As aleosha said in the book, "before she came, I seemed to sleep in the dark, but as soon as she appeared, she woke me up and led me to a place of light".

    My grandmother didn't read any books and didn't know any great truth, but the stories she told, the words she said, the things she did and the love she gave imperceptibly influenced aleosha and became a textbook for his life.

    Aleosha's childhood was unfortunate. He was born in such an era and lived in such a family. Aliosha's childhood was lucky again. The love of his grandmother, the righteousness of little cigang and the friendship of good things all gave him good memories and endless hope in his childhood.

     Life is like this. Where there is suffering, there is hope. As long as you look for it, there will always be a ray of sunshine to warm the suffering heart and illuminate the way forward. Suffering gives pain and strength.
