In conclusion, the story indicates how disastrous and costly ignorance can be. It clearly teaches that people should not assume or do things behind other people back even if it is to please them. One should not brand other people names or status out of appearance and choices of food. Miss Martha mistakes the artist to be poor and later destroyed his valuable painting that had cost him a lot of time and money. Although it is humorous how Miss Martha slip butter on the artist’s bread, the story indicates that the wrong perspectives that one has over people can lead to misinterpretation and misleading intentions. Her actions ruined her relationship with the artist instead of perfecting it. The picture we create in our mind of other people can be the opposite of the truth especially when one put it on clothing.
