The Old Man and the Sea  is a novel written by Hemingway, an American writer. It is the last novel written by the author and one of the most famous works. This novel tells the story of a Cuban fisherman fighting with a huge marlin in the sea. A man can be destroyed, but not defeated.

The old fisherman showed amazing perseverance in his fight with the sea. Among them, I like a sentence from Hemingway and a sentence from the book best. Hemingway once said, "Perseverance is calm under tension". In our life, there are many frustrations. At this time, we need to overcome them with perseverance. Just like the old fisherman in the book, he can catch a shark even though his hands are cut to pieces to catch it. Another sentence in the book also inspired me: "People are not born for failure." The old fisherman also sighed when he was talking to himself. I think the old man is a lonely, optimistic and strong person, which is worthy of our admiration. Failure and success are antonyms, but how can we succeed without failure? Therefore, we should establish such a belief in life that we are born to overcome failure. Failure is not terrible. The most terrible thing is to be afraid of failure, be mindful of the gains and losses, and lose our brave and tenacious heart. The old man also experienced the failure of not catching a shark for 84 days, and then he succeeded in catching a shark. But how much tenacity and effort must be paid! Never admit defeat, never say die, this is the truth the old man told us.
