Edna's end is tragic, why not tragic rather than tragic? It was she who
realized her true self. Despite the constraints of reality and the
pressure of society, she at least did not give in and ended her life in
the eternal sea, where she at least felt free, completely belonging to
herself and following her heart. She was truly free. In the novel, the
heroine once said: I can sacrifice myself for the children, but I can't
sacrifice my ego. She can give up her life for the sake of her children.
It is not that she does not love her children, but she cannot lose
herself. This is the inherent consciousness of a person. Modern women,
more and more independent, more and more strong sense of self-awareness,
society to their higher and higher requirements, they need more and
more. They need not only material, but also emotional attention. But the
sad thing is that while they are liberated themselves, the minds of
those around them may not be liberated, which is also the root cause of
social contradictions. Sometimes I really admire Edna's courage, the
novel also let me see the heart surging, her spontaneous, not affected
nature has been repressed, with the awakening burst out together, I
think with her to enjoy the freedom, should even breathing will be smooth.
