"The Old Man and the Sea" was written by Ernest Miller Hemingway, an American novelist and Nobel Prize winner. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, he committed suicide at his home in Ketcham, Idaho. Hemingway, who was married four times, was considered to be the most famous novelist of the 20th century. His works show his confusion and hesitation about life, the world and society.

"The Old Man and the Sea" was set in Cuba in the middle of the 20th century. The hero is an old fisherman named Santiago, and the supporting role is a child named Manolin. The old fisherman even eighty-four days did not catch a fish, but he still refused to give up, but full of the spirit of struggle, and finally caught a length of eighteen feet, weighing fifteen hundred pounds of marlin on the eighty-fifth day. The big fish dragged the boat out to sea, but the old man still pulled on, even if he had no water, no food, no weapon, no help, and a crate in his left hand. After two days and nights, he finally killed the big fish and tied it to the side of the boat. But numerous sharks immediately came to take his prize. He killed them one by one until he had merely a broken tiller left as a weapon. As a consequence, the big fish was still unable to escape the fate of being eaten, finally, the old man exhausted back to a pair of fish bones. When he returned home and lay in bed, he had to dream back to the good old days to forget the harsh reality.

Behind Hemingway's profound and delicate descriptions, I often feel an empty and lonely soul longing for recognition and self - realization. In the consciousness of their own experience, beating but always unable to free themselves from thought of trivia. Reading Hemingway is like reading a lonely and indomitable self, which is a more than self - contained state, and we should not only seek answers in our own consciousness and thought, and any thought-driven action, for the reason that all of these come from the limitation of experience, and the desire to seek self - expression is endless, but life is limited. In this cycle, there will be endless emptiness and sorrow.

Hemingway's true and profound description and clever story behind the fate arrangement always reflected a truth -- a sense of loneliness in life, and ultimate futility of any form of self - actualization escape behavior. Don't wait for harm to happen, only to regret, we are the carrier of our own soul, and the energy of the keeper, if there is no love, any kind of self will lead to the occurrence of tragedy. In this seemingly mundane life, everything seems to be very insignificant, our dilemma is not how to seek comfort when lonely, but how to face their own truth, understand their true existence, so that our life will not be lost, behind everything, emptiness contains endless mystery and beauty, that is the most simple and affluent life. Compared with the eyes, the universe of association exploded at that moment, the spark, the fine starlight, is the great life!

Like Prometheus, Hemingway reshaped a life form with reference to life in life. He explored the unlimited potential of his tough man spirit and attempt to sublimate the human heroic temperament in the form of literature. His Santiago is worshipped as a character, a personality, a will, a belief, a grace, a sense of beauty, a form of life, and becomes the true place of the human hero.
