Be strong
Be strong and never compromise
Have you ever failed? Many of you have probably experienced or even are experiencing failure. The book ----The Old Man and the Sea had a great impact on me. It is a touching story of "survival and confrontation" and is a must-read for a lifetime. I strongly recommend reading it.
The strong spirit it shows is very impressive. Hemingway condensed and coalesced his own human attitude into this book. The language in the book is too simple to feel unbelievable. During the revision process, he deleted all the good sentences that were marked out. Letting the reader look at the blandest content of the novel makes us feel poor and depressing, thus prompting us to fill it with rich imagination. This is the famous iceberg theory. The words and language of a novel are only one-eighth of what is above the water. It's the emotion and thought that are seven eighths of the underwater.
An old man, for more than 80 days, did not catch any fish. Everyone laughed at him, because everyone thought there was bad luck on the old man who hadn't caught a fish for more than 80 days. Only a child was with him. He had no money to eat and was starving, relying on the bar owner's relief to barely eat something. The only entertainment was to read the newspaper that people gave him as a handout and read the baseball news on it. But he was not lost, not frustrated, he decided to go out to sea to catch a big fish. He got what he wanted and caught a fish that was bigger than the boat, but this fish took the line and ran his boat with him for two days and two nights. His hand gripping the line was cut to a bloody pulp. He did not dare to sleep, and could only grasp the line with one hand and take the disgusting raw fish with the other to fill his hunger. During the struggle, he gradually admired the big fish. He even felt that no one else deserved to eat the flesh of this big fish. If the rope is cut off, disconnected from the fish, he can immediately free himself. But that means defeat, the old man never gave up the idea of struggle in his head. All he thought about was that I want to eat raw fish, I wanted to preserve my strength, and I wanted to be vigilant that I cannot fall asleep. Later the big fish ran out of strength. The old man killed the big fish and dragged its body home. But the smell of the big fish's blood attracted sharks. The old man used the tools around to kill the shark. The result was that the gun was gone, the knife broke, the oars and rudder were gone, the shark continued to flow. Finally the tired old man returned to the shore with the white bone of fish. After disembarking, the old man returned to the hut trembling and went to sleep exhausted. A group of people surrounded the old man's boat, and a fisherman went to measure the length of the fish bones. "Eighteen feet long in all from the nose to the tail of the fish." The man who measured it said loudly. This is the end of the story.
The old man came back to the house and said, "This time we have to get a sharp harpoon and keep it on the boat at all times." This just proves that opportunities are reserved for those who are prepared. No matter what time it is, we must be ready to meet the challenges and opportunities. This way you will not be overwhelmed by the challenges and opportunities that come your way.
If the duel with the big fish is epic in nature, a fair duel between heroes. Then the shark is the nature of real life, symbolizing a variety of frustrations. He illustrated very well what it means to be unyielding, to be born strong, to go beyond your spirit. It is impossible for people to always have a smooth ride and always get the winning script, it is a pipe dream. But if you pursue nothing, it is almost impossible for you to fail. In other words, those who struggle with fate are born close to failure. Only those who lie in their comfort zone and live by the rules always "win". But this victory is worthless. Only those who have a "tough spirit". They face defeat without fear, constantly struggling, constantly beyond themselves. As the old man said: man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed, but not defeated.
I hope everyone can run towards the things that make them shine. To break through, to persevere, to focus, to explore, your opponent is only yourself.
