"Sister Carrie" is a novel by American realist writer
Theodore Dreiser, a sister to "Jenny Girl" . "Carrie's
Sister" describes the story of a rural girl Carrie who came to the
big city Chicago tofind happiness, sold her chastity in order to get rid
of poverty, lived with a salesman and a hotelmanager, and then became an
actress with her beauty and singing voice. The writer, representedby
Carrie, profoundly exposes the cruelty of the oppression of poor people
by the American capitalist system and the corrosiveness of the bourgeois
lifestyle to petty-bourgeois elements. After reading this book, on
the one hand, in today's era when many people are full of inertiaand
lack of ambition, I admire Carrie's sister's ambition and determination
to try to make agood life. On the one hand, I also felt that Carrie's
sister's unscrupulous approach in order to live agood life was
undesirable, and she even took advantage of the chastity that should be
cherished most as a woman. But maybe everyone chooses life differently!
In addition, whenHursworth was poor and it was not good for Carrie's
sister, she chose to leave it directly, whichalso made me think that
Carrie's sister was somewhat cold-blooded and had no gratitude.
