To Struggle
The Old Man and the Sea tells the story of a person struggling with his own arduous fate.
The protagonist in this story, that is, the old man, whose fate is to be a fisherman and unfortunate. When he is old, he will drag his old body to fight against the cruel nature. And all this is his fate.
In the middle of the story, the old man caught a big fish. When I see this, I will feel that his fate seems to be improving. But at the end of the story, only a huge skeleton was left by the shark. The old man still has nothing. The next morning, he must go to sea again and accept the challenges of fate for his own survival.
The author wrote a paragraph from the eyes of others here, it is about that someone saw a huge fish bone on the beach and sighed. The intention of this paragraph is to say that if a person suffers a painful fate, he can only support and carry it by himself. There is no way for others to help you. From the perspective of others, you can sigh a few words at most. Therefore, in the story, the old man never complained about his experience to others. Because everyone who has really experienced and is in suffering knows that others can't help you.
At the end of this story, the author tells us that with personal strength, we can't fight against our own fate. In this story, the author projects himself on the old man and uses the harsh environment, the huge waves of the sea, and the sharks in the sea to describe his cruel fate. If a person unfortunately suffers a cruel fate, no matter how painful it is, there is no choice but to accept it. The only way to persevere is to hold on alone. Just like the old man in the story, although in his declining years he also has to go to sea to fish every day. Because this is his fate, he can't avoid it, and others can't help you.
The old man dreamed of a lion for several times in the novel. The lion here is a symbol, which refers to the yearning and longing for a better life and the memory of the good life. It can also be understood as a hope creats in a cruel environment. It is this kind of hope that has always supported the old man. However, this kind of expectation can eventually appear in the dream, not become a reality.
But even so, the old man fought tenaciously in the face of his cruel fate. As the book says, "A man can be destroyed but not be defeated." Beethoven once said something similar :I can be destroyed, but I can not be conquered.
Although the old man did not get the booty in the end, he did not fail. On the road of life, the word "failure" has another meaning, that is, people lose the confidence to continue to fight and put down their weapons. Human beings give in to the limitation, which is the real failure. Those who did not lay down their weapons and continued to fight, and continued to challenge the limitation did not fail. In this way, the old man did not fail. People and groups who survived with such belief, no matter what the outcome is, they are really winners!
Compared with the old fisherman who lives in distress in the book or with many people who live a difficult life in real life, our life is already very comfortable. We should learn to love life and face the unexpected difficulties in life. For us, every difficulty we encounter will not only make it difficult for us to walk, but will make us stronger and stronger and become a stepping stone to success. Every time we challenge ourselves is a new life for us.
