Hardship Makes a Her
Hemingway is a famous American writer, his life can be said to be full of legend. He was fond of writing and created his masterpiece, the novella "The Old Man and the Sea". Once it came out, it caused a strong international reputation and caused a great sensation in the literary circle at that time, which once set off a "Hemingway fever". Today, the novel is still a classic in the world literary circle, was named as one of the 100 classics that influenced history, and won the Nobel Prize for Literature. But in fact, he wasn't just a writer, he was a journalist, he was a soldier he fought, he boxed, he was a spy. Hemingway was a very adventurous man. He loved to travel, to hunt, to go fishing in the sea. With his rich fishing experience, Hemingway created a fisherman who caught fish for a living. In some cases, the old fisherman was more like a miniature of Hemingway himself.
After the Pacific War broke out in late 1941, Hemingway converted his yacht into a cruiser to spy on the movements of German submarines and provide information for the elimination of the enemy. In the mid-1990s, former KGB man Alexander Vasilyev was granted access to the archives of the Soviet intelligence service. To his surprise, Hemingway had been recruited as a KGB spy in 1941 under the code name Argo. Unfortunately, there was no talent, no information of any value. In 1944, Hemingway was on a reporting trip to Europe with the US army. He was badly injured in a plane crash, but recovered and continued to cover behind enemy lines. After the Second World War, he received a bronze medal. In 1948, Hemingway divorced Martha, married wartime correspondent Mary Walsh Hemingway, and soon returned to Cuba. Hemingway took his own life with a shotgun in Idaho on July 2, 1961, at the age of 62.
The book focuses on the story of Santiago, an old Cuban fisherman, who has a lot of luck and his supreme suffering through a brutal and unrelenting battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf of Mexico. Although the old man is not based on the prototype of Hemingway, his spirit is on full display in the old fisherman, not afraid of losing, not afraid of suffering, not afraid of death, these are the precipitation of the lifetime of Hemingway. Although old, has bad luck and failure, he keeps trying, and he is able to win with the grace of defeat. This novel shows a striving outlook on life, even in the face of the unconquerable nature, but people can still achieve spiritual victory.
"The Old Man and the Sea" in addition to the tough "can be destroyed, can not be defeated" spirit, but also with a kind of life changed. There are always some things in life that you can't do no matter how hard you try. Even if you make a lot of sacrifices, you can only insist on nothing but success, but there is still something positive, so the work finally returns to the spirit that can be destroyed and cannot be defeated.
