Jane Eyre
CALM
After reading this classic novel, I'm deeply enchanted by Jane's
character. She is clever, independent and interesting person. She refuse
to compromise to all the restriction. The story begins with the
childhood of Jane Eyre. Jane is an orphan, who lived under her aunt's
roof. Her aunt Mrs. Reed and her children dislike her and were mean to
her, scolding and despising her. Instead of giving her a feeling of
home, they treated her like she was their enemy. Besides Bessie, nobody
care about her. Jane lived a misery life, and she was angry and despair,
questioning her fate and all the hardships she had to bear with her
delicate shoulders. Therefore, Jane stood up and fought back, which led
her to the turning point of her life, she was sent to the school. She
has been wrongly seen in her early school years, but she encountered
Helen and Miss Temple, they help her go through the tough years, and
regained her reputation. Years later, Jane grew up and received the
letter from Thornfield and went to be a house teacher for a little
french girl Adele. Then she met the love of her life—Mr. Rochester. Mr.
Rochester respects her, they can talk to each other equally. They soon
fall in love with each other. But when they were about to get married.
The news of Mr. Rochester already had a wife and kept it a secret to her
broke her heart. Unwilling to compromise, Jane ran away. In her
wandering period, she met her cousin John and received a good fortune
from her relative. John asked her to go preaching with him. Again, Jane
hesitated. She eventually decided to follow her heart and went back to
Thornfield. By then, Mr. Rochester had lost his eyesight and the mansion
was burnt down. Jane realized that Mr. Rochester is her true love,
despite money and other things. She finally accepted his propose. Under
her care, Mr. Rochester regained his eyesight, they lived happily
together. From my perspective, Jane Eyre is a special figure in
literature. She revealed different thoughts in her early age. She
rebelled against her miserable life and accepted her true feelings. In
the different stages of her life. She grew up with a kind, thoughtful
heart. In the story, she was considered as a naughty child by her aunt
when she was young. Her aunt and cousins treated her poorly. Jane also
demonstrated her hatred towards them. But when her aunt was dying in
bed, she went back and look after her. Jane uses her forgiveness to show
her growth. Hatred gradually dissolved after the years she had been
through, she came to realize that only forgive and forget can make her
actually go over that hard time in her life and made her a better
person. When facing love or truth. Jane Eyre eventually chose love.
From the very beginning, I didn’t really like the character Mr.
Rochester very much. He is rich, handsome, but I don’t think he and Jane
is a good match. The Traditional standard of status and wealth naturally
keeps them apart. But when I keep on reading. I realized Mr. Rochester
is not a perfect person, neither is Jane. But from their conversations
and interactions, I can see Mr. Rochester's respect towards Jane. He saw
the differences in her, which made him so in love with her. Their love
is more base on the feeling and mutual respect than money and
reputation. Despite their age gap, Their minds were connected. After
years of running and going through hard times, Jane finally found the
feeling of home. That's why this pair can get together in the end, and
that’s how love works. On the other hand, John, he is kind of a symbol
of truth and freedom for Jane. She can pursue greater things and show
her potential if she had followed him. But John didn’t really care about
her feelings. She is more like a tool for him. So Jane decided to go
back, which I think is a better choice for her. Jane is a very unique
person, she won’t sacrifice her the feeling to help her get achievement.
And that is what I think a lot about. Jane Eyre in this story reveals
female's fighting and rebel to the traditional stereotypes of female.
Jane had more control about her feelings and life choice, which
indicated the author’s thoughts to the women at that time. Encouraging
women to pursue their the true feelings, don't restrict themselves.
Although Jane eventually get married and lived like normal women did in
their whole life. But her character is still interesting and charming. I
can see author's effort in creating this character and making her
lovable. I'm very glad that she made it. Jane Eyre will always be the
unique and brave girl in everyone’s heart.
