The Garden Party
In the first half of the novel, the author describes the details of a very wealthy family preparing for a garden party. Laura, the protagonist, is a little girl who loves life, loves nature, is compassionate and has no concept of class. The opening section describes the good weather, and Laura shows the wealth of the family in the process of directing the workers to prepare for the garden party. At the same time, through Laura's psychological activities, Laura shows the characteristics of loving nature, loving life and having no concept of class. The novel's twist comes from bad news. And then a man around the corner from their house died, leaving behind a wife and several young children. From there, the novel finally has some dramatic conflicts and becomes more attractive.
The conflict is between Laura and her family. When I heard the news, Laura meant to stop the party, because the man below died, we were shocked and we should not have the party any more, but the rest of the family didn't agree, they felt that bad things were happening in the world every day, we should go on with our lives. Young Laura didn't understand this. She felt that we should offer our comfort to others who had suffered bad luck. But the rest of the family dismissed Laura's idea.
At the end of the dance, there was a great deal of food left, and it occurred to the rest of the family that, to show sympathy for the family, they should take it to the poor man's house as a gesture of sympathy. But then Laura objected. Wasn't it disrespectful to send the leftovers to the poor? But the rest of the family wasn't impressed. Laura went anyway. In the poor family, she saw the family's poverty and felt their sorrow.
At last, when Laura's brother came to pick her up, Laura suddenly had some perception of life, but she could not express it clearly, but her brother understood. The novel came to an abrupt end.
The theme of this novel is the garden club, but the whole story does not describe the garden club. As for the process of the garden meeting, the novel does not describe it, but just a brush. It is more about the contrast between the two families through the preparation of the garden. Laura is a very simple character. She has many of the same views as when we were young. She always looks at the world in a very simple and compassionate way. But the rest of the family is much more mature than she is. They are used to the world, they are used to their lives.
The end of the novel actually leaves a suspense for readers. What does Laura want to express and what kind of understanding does she have on life?
My answer is that life is just like that, everyone's life is vastly different, and life is just like that, full of unexpected sadness.
