The Empty Skeleton

Some people said that the old man in the book only retrieves an empty skeleton and gains nothing of value. I disagree with the idea. In my opinion, he did not gain material value, but he did gain spiritual abundance.

The empty skeleton hints at the intense fishing, and the old man's indomitable spirit was evident throughout the fishing process. He was a fisherman. He did not catch any fish for eighty-four days. Others said he was unlucky, but he did not give up. When he catch the big fish, the fish's youth and vigor were in sharp contrast to the old man's old age and infirmity, but the old man conquered the big fish with his own perseverance. In the fight with the basin fish, the old man tried his best to protect the fish he caught with his only weapon. He killed one shark after another which rushed towards the fish. Although the meat of the fish was eaten by the shark, he also killed many sharks in the process. Although he can not get rid of the fate of failure, he still use courge, wisdom and perseverance to resist and struggle. When the meat of the big fish was almost finished by the shark's mouth, the old man was suddenly relieved, and he even no longer paid more attention to the attack of the shark. He only thought that the quality of the ship became lighter and he could go home quickly, which reflected the old man's character in the face of failure but not discouraged. Although he only got an empty skeleton, but he got the spirit of the temper, just as the book said, "people are not born to be defeated, you try to destroy him, but you can not beat.''
