The scarlet letter
英语2002葛晓丹
I once heard my teacher talked about this novel in class, but I haven't
read it. I only know the outline. Now after reading, I have much more
understanding and feelings. Hawthorne expresses his view of sin
through the experience of the main characters in the book, and explores
who is the real sinner and what is its origin. The characters in The
Scarlet Letter are all guilty, but their attitudes towards this are
different, and the results are also different. Prynne openly
acknowledged his sin and made atonement for each other with all his
sufferings; Dimmester hid his sin, tortured himself, and finally took
the courage to confess his sin and became a martyr; Chillingworth is
bent on revenge and harming others and himself. Instead, he turns
himself into a devil and a real sinner. Is there identity between
hate and love? When these two feelings reach the extreme, they are
inseparable; Both can make a person ask for food for emotional and
spiritual life from the other party; Once the object of love or evil has
withdrawn, it will put the hot lover or fanatical enemy in a lonely and
desolate situation.
