Read about The Old and The Sea
徐苑儿
"The Old Man and the Sea" is written by a Cuban. The rare old
fisherman got nothing in 84 days at sea. On the 85th day, the old man
drove into the sea which was farther than expected before and caught a
huge fish that had hardly been caught. It was because the big fish was
subdued two days after the big fish battle. The fork was attacked by
sharks several times on the way back, and finally returned to the
fishing village with the skeleton of the big fish. The novel interprets
the nobility and dignity of life to readers The indestructible spirit
and the relationship between man and nature. The whole story has some
tragic and desolate colors, and the little boy's care and trust for the
old man makes the novel more warm. Some people say that old Sandiago is
a hero who has failed. Although he was a tough man, he failed. What is
failure? Maybe it can be said that when people do one thing, they fail
to achieve the expected goal, which is failure. However, those who
struggle with fate, those who struggle close to their limits, are
naturally close to this failure. When the old man went to the sea, he
could not expect fish to bite his hook every day, so he often failed. A
person who often struggles close to his own limit will often fail, a
person who wants to explore the mysteries of nature will often fail, and
a person who wants to reform society will often fail. Only those who are
content to live within their own limits are always
"victorious". The reason why this "winner" always
wins is that his opponent has already been subdued, or that he has not
entered the struggle at all. Like many others, he is a member of the
tough human race. I like such people, and I also like such human nature.
I have found that people often regard such things as the most valuable
expression of human nature: a seven-foot man sitting in the kitchen
grinds with his three aunts and six grandmothers, or men and women in
straight clothes sitting on the beach, talking about noble feelings that
others can't understand. I don't like people indulging in the weak part
of human nature like this, and I don't like people always describing
human nature like this. Just as the old people go to the sea every day,
many people also go to the battlefield of fighting against their limits
every day, as if they are going to compete with their fate. They are the
strongest among the people. Human beings themselves have their own
limits, but when people reach beyond the limits again and again, the
limits expand day by day. Human beings grow up in the struggle with
limits. They sent the spacecraft into space, and they also used simple
fishing gear to catch huge marlin in the Caribbean Sea. These things are
equally great. People who do such incredible things are heroes. Those
who will never or cannot exceed their limits are mediocre people. What
on earth do people live for? Everyone gives different answers, either
for career achievements, or for the happiness of family, or for the
friendship between friends. But the only thing we have in common is that
we should at least understand the reasons for our struggle. People
should never live in order to survive, otherwise that kind of life is
empty and meaningless. On the contrary, there are many people in today's
society who do not live in the most miserable and painful depths of the
world, but complain about the unfairness of life all day long. They talk
about their failures day and night to win the sympathy of others, but
never think about why they lost. The root cause is that they never think
about how to succeed, just how to wait for the next failure.
"People are not born for failure. A person can be destroyed, but
cannot be defeated." Santiago's words are undoubtedly a loud slap
in the face of such behavior. A hundred blows are only tribulations
imposed on people by the outside world; The negation of yourself is the
abandonment of your pursuit. Even if you have success in the eyes of
others, it is just a walking corpse. In my eyes, the meaning of human
survival is to find the ideal things that are worth pursuing, and to
adhere to and protect them to the maximum extent. Because that is the
most precious life of human beings, and the only chance given to them.
Once upon a time, I was also afraid of difficulties, fear of fear and
loss when failure came, fear that I would fall deeper and deeper in the
abyss of failure, fear of ridicule from others... But now, I am more
afraid of believing that I was defeated by failure, fear that I would be
blinded by the momentary pain of loss and could not find the way back.
The failure of people is never terrible. The terrible thing is to forget
why we live, why we should die, and why life is precious to us. I am
glad that I have found a light that will not go out, flashing in the sky
of my life.
